Denbigh is a small market town in Denbighshire, Wales, sited on a ridge above the River Clwyd in the fertile Vale of Clwyd. It was established as a planted borough in the late 13th century and is still dominated by the ruins of Denbigh Castle and stretches of medieval town walls, which give the place a compact, historic character and fine views towards the nearby Clwydian Range and the North Wales coast.
Today Denbigh combines a farming hinterland with a small retail and service economy, and tourism linked to its heritage and local walking country. The town has a lively community life with bilingual Welsh–English roots, independent shops and cafes, occasional markets and events, and easy access to hillwalking and coastal attractions for visitors and residents alike.
