Pen-y-ffordd is a small village in Flintshire, in north‑east Wales. The name, which literally means "top of the road" in Welsh, sits in gently rolling agricultural countryside within easy reach of the North Wales coast and the Dee estuary, and is not far from the industrial and commuter centres of Deeside and Chester.
Historically the locality has links to rural farming and the nearby mineral workings of the uplands (the legacy of lead and limestone extraction can still be seen on surrounding hills), and today it functions as a quiet residential and farming community. Local life tends to centre on village events, community groups and small local businesses, with many residents commuting out to larger towns for work while retaining a distinctly local, bilingual Welsh–English character.
