The communities of Llanasa and Trelawnyd sit in north‑east Flintshire, occupying a pleasantly rural block on the lower slopes of the Clwydian Range with views out towards the Dee estuary and the Irish Sea. Trelawnyd perches a little higher and gives easy access to ridge walks and outlooks such as Moel Famau, while Llanasa is a more dispersed parish of farms, lanes and small hamlets across rolling agricultural land.
Locally the economy is still strongly agricultural, supplemented by commuting to nearby market towns and to Chester, and by visitors drawn to walking and local heritage. Both villages retain village halls, pubs and active community life, and their historic churches, old farmsteads and traces of prehistoric earthworks underline a long‑standing rural settlement pattern; Trelawnyd has also been known historically as Newmarket, a reminder of its layered social history within Flintshire.
