Pennal is a small rural village and community on the south bank of the River Dyfi in Gwynedd, west Wales. Set beside the wildlife-rich Dyfi estuary and fringed by rolling farmland and uplands that lead towards Snowdonia, it retains a quiet agricultural character with sheep farming, pockets of forestry and modest tourism drawn to birdwatching, walking and the estuary's saltmarshes.
The village is historically notable as the place where Owain Glyndŵr held a parliament in 1406 and sent his famous "Pennal Letter" to the court of France, and the parish church and local memorials reflect that medieval link. Today Pennal is a small Welsh-speaking community with close ties to nearby Machynlleth, combining traditional rural life with interest from visitors attracted by history and the surrounding natural landscape.
