Harlech is a small coastal town in Gwynedd, Wales, set beneath the dramatic silhouette of Harlech Castle, which crowns a stony crag overlooking Cardigan Bay. The town enjoys a long sandy beach and is a handy gateway to Snowdonia and the Wales Coast Path, so it’s popular with walkers, birdwatchers and anyone after big skies and sea views.
Built by Edward I in the late 13th century and now part of a UNESCO World Heritage grouping, the castle gives the town a strong historic identity - it’s also tied to the famous tune often called “Men of Harlech”. Today Harlech has a largely tourism-driven economy, a lively local community with many Welsh speakers, and a mix of shops, cafés and holiday accommodation that reflect both traditional culture and seasonal pressures from second homes and visitors.
