Tremadog is a small, planned village in Gwynedd, north‑west Wales, sitting just above the estuary of the River Glaslyn and close to Porthmadog on the edge of Snowdonia and Cardigan Bay. Its compact grid of Georgian streets and a central square reflect its early nineteenth‑century origins, and the setting gives easy access to coastal walks, mountain trails and nearby heritage railways.
Founded as a model town by the landowner William Madocks, Tremadog played a role in the development of the local harbour and the slate trade that shaped the region’s economy. Today it’s known for well‑preserved period architecture, a lively bilingual community, small independent shops, galleries and cafés, and a steady flow of visitors using it as a base for outdoor pursuits and exploring the cultural landscape of north‑west Wales.
