Llanberis is a small village in Gwynedd, Wales, sitting at the foot of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) and the edge of Snowdonia National Park. It occupies a dramatic lakeside setting beside Llyn Padarn, a glacial lake popular for walking, kayaking and mountain views, and is the valley terminus for the Snowdon Mountain Railway, making it a gateway for hikers and visitors to the summit.
The village has a strong slate‑quarrying heritage - most visible in the hulking scars of Dinorwig Quarry nearby and interpreted at the National Slate Museum - and the former quarry now houses the Electric Mountain hydro scheme. Today the local economy is centred on tourism and outdoor services, with cafes, shops and guiding businesses, and a lively bilingual community where Welsh language and culture remain important.
