Menai is an electoral ward in Gwynedd, sitting on the north-eastern shore of the Menai Strait beside the city of Bangor. The ward enjoys direct views across the strait to Anglesey and lies close to the famous crossings of the Menai Suspension Bridge and the Britannia Bridge, giving it a scenic, waterside character and easy road and rail connections between island and mainland.
Primarily residential, the area mixes local shops and services with tourism and outdoor leisure - sailing, coastal walks and birdwatching are popular - while many people commute into Bangor for work or study. There is a strong Welsh-speaking presence and a sense of maritime and 19th‑century engineering heritage in the local identity, with community life tending to centre on village halls, pubs and the waterfront rather than heavy industry.
