Bontnewydd is a small village in Gwynedd, Wales, set a short distance from Caernarfon and within easy reach of the Menai Strait and the foothills of Snowdonia. The name, meaning “new bridge” in Welsh, hints at its origins by a river crossing and its compact, rural layout amid farmland and hedgerows.
The village has a strong Welsh-speaking community with local amenities such as a village hall and chapel, and many residents commute to nearby towns while others work in agriculture or in tourism-related businesses. Historically the area shares in north‑Wales industries such as slate quarrying, and today visitors are drawn by the peaceful character, scenic walks and proximity to the castles, coastline and mountain scenery of north‑west Wales.
