Rhostryfan is a small village in Gwynedd, north-west Wales, sitting on the upland fringe of the Nantlle Valley close to the edge of Snowdonia National Park. The setting gives classic Welsh upland scenery - farmland, lanes and good walking country - and the locality bears the imprint of the 19th-century slate industry that shaped many communities in the area.
Socially and culturally the village is largely Welsh-speaking with a strong chapel and community tradition; its economy remains rooted in agriculture while tourism and commuting to nearby towns such as Caernarfon provide additional income. Residents tend to describe a close-knit community with a focus on preserving local language and landscape.
