Talysarn is a small village in Gwynedd, in north Wales, tucked into the industrial-tinged landscape of the Nantlle Valley beneath the ridges of Snowdonia. The valley setting and nearby former slate quarries give the area a distinctive mix of rugged hills, spoil tips and narrow streets, reflecting its past as part of the historic Welsh slate industry.
Locally the village is known for a strong Welsh-speaking community, chapel culture and a tradition of choirs and Eisteddfod participation. Economically the area shifted from quarrying in the 20th century to a more mixed pattern of commuting, small businesses and tourism linked to the landscape and heritage; social life remains centred on community halls, local clubs and remembrance of the slate-era past.
