Menai Bridge is a compact town on the southeastern edge of the Isle of Anglesey, Wales, perched above the tidal Menai Strait. Its most famous landmark is the graceful Menai Suspension Bridge, designed by Thomas Telford and opened in 1826 to link the island to the mainland; the strait’s strong currents and rocky channels give the area dramatic coastal scenery and make it popular with sailors and kayakers.
The local economy is driven by tourism, small businesses and commuters who travel into nearby Bangor, with cafes, boat trips and a compact waterfront that reflects the town’s maritime past. There’s a strong Welsh-English community feel, reflected in bilingual schools and local events, and narrow streets and historic buildings add to its village charm between Bangor and Caernarfon.
