Allt-yr-yn is a leafy residential suburb of Newport in south Wales, set on a wooded slope overlooking the city. Its Welsh name alludes to that hillside, and the area is valued for mature trees, elevated views and a quieter, suburban character compared with the busier riverside and industrial parts of the city.
The neighbourhood developed mainly in the 20th century and features a mix of inter-war and later housing, local shops, schools and community facilities, making it popular with families and commuters. Several green corridors and footpaths run through the area, giving it a semi‑rural feel while remaining within easy reach of Newport’s cultural and economic amenities.
