Cilgerran is a compact village and parish in north Pembrokeshire, crouched above the winding River Teifi. It is best known for the dramatic ruins of Cilgerran Castle, a 13th‑century marcher stronghold that sits on a limestone spur overlooking a steep, wooded gorge - a scene much admired by Victorian artists and still popular with walkers and photographers today.
The surrounding parish is largely agricultural, with a local economy bolstered by tourism, small craft businesses and a scattering of shops, cafés and pubs. Community life remains strong and distinctly Welsh in flavour, with events such as village and agricultural shows, while the river and valley draw anglers, canoeists and birdwatchers; the market town of Cardigan lies a short distance downstream.
