Gungrog is a semi-rural ridge and common-land area on the eastern edge of Welshpool in Powys, Wales. It’s prized locally for open moorland, woodland and walking routes that give broad views down the Severn Valley and towards the Berwyns, reflecting its long use as grazing and community common land within historic Montgomeryshire.
Today Gungrog has a mix of housing and farmland and sits close to the market town’s amenities, the nearby Montgomery Canal and rail links, so local life combines agriculture, outdoor recreation and commuting to nearby centres such as Shrewsbury. Its value is largely social and recreational rather than industrial, making it a green fringe that helps define the character of Welshpool.
