Crowthorne is a small town in the borough of Bracknell Forest in Berkshire, set amid heathland and mixed woodland on the edge of the Thames Basin Heaths. It has a distinctly semi-rural, commuter feel with settled residential areas, commons and woods used for walking and riding, and reasonably good rail and road connections that make nearby Reading and London accessible for commuters.
The town’s modern shape was influenced by Victorian developments such as Wellington College and the presence of Broadmoor Hospital, the high-security psychiatric hospital, both of which remain local landmarks and employers. Today Crowthorne combines village-scale shops, sports clubs and community events with a largely residential economy, serving families and professionals who work locally or commute to larger towns and cities.
