The Radcliffe North & Ainsworth ward sits on the northern edge of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury in Greater Manchester, covering northern parts of Radcliffe and the small village of Ainsworth. It blends suburban streets and Victorian terraces with pockets of countryside that rise towards the West Pennine Moors, and the nearby River Irwell and reservoirs give parts of the ward a surprisingly leafy, semi‑rural feel while still being well connected to Manchester by Metrolink and buses.
Historically the area developed through mills, brickworks and quarrying during the industrial era, leaving a landscape of former industrial sites alongside more recent housing and family estates. Today it’s a mixed community of commuters and long‑standing local residents, with local shops, community groups and sports clubs active on the ground and a strong interest in conserving green corridors and the area’s industrial heritage.
