Wisbech is a market town and civil parish set in the low-lying, reclaimed landscape of the Fenland district of Cambridgeshire, England, lying on the south bank of the River Nene. Its riverside location made it an important inland port and trading hub for the surrounding agricultural fens, and the pattern of drains, washes and flat fields still defines the area’s geography.
The town surprises many with a grand Georgian centre - notably The Crescent - and civic landmarks such as Wisbech Castle and the long-running Wisbech & Fenland Museum that testify to a rich local history. Today the economy still leans on horticulture, market gardening and food processing, while a diverse community and active heritage groups keep social and cultural life lively.
