The ward centred on Hemingford Grey and Houghton sits on the banks of the River Great Ouse in the historic district of Huntingdonshire, in Cambridgeshire, England. The area is characterised by riverside meadows, attractive period cottages and several listed buildings; nearby Houghton Mill and medieval parish churches recall a long riverside milling and agricultural past.
Today the communities are largely residential with farming on the edges, a village pub, local shops and active village halls and parish councils, while many residents commute to Huntingdon, Cambridge or Peterborough via the A14 and local rail links. The river and towpaths are popular for walking, boating and fishing, giving the ward a strong sense of local community and outdoor life.
