Foxton is a small ward and village in the district of South Cambridgeshire, in Cambridgeshire, England, sitting a few miles south-west of Cambridge. Its most striking geographic feature is the stretch of the Grand Union Canal that runs through the parish, dominated by the famous flight of Foxton Locks, which draws walkers, boaters and day visitors to the towpath and surrounding countryside.
The area has a strong agricultural hinterland but a mixed local economy, with tourism around the locks and a sizeable commuter population working in Cambridge and beyond. Historically the locks and the short-lived Foxton Inclined Plane shaped the settlement’s identity; today there are village amenities, a community hall and active preservation groups that keep the canal’s industrial heritage and quiet village life to the fore.
