Situated in west Cornwall, Camborne grew from a market town into the heart of a booming 18th–19th century tin and copper mining district, its skyline still punctuated by engine houses and spoil heaps along the Great Flat Lode. The industrial legacy is recognised as part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the town is known for the Camborne School of Mines, which trained engineers who went on to work around the globe.
Today Camborne blends that mining heritage with a lively community spirit - annual events such as Trevithick Day celebrate its engineering past - and an economy leaning on light industry, services and tourism. Close to Redruth and other former mining settlements, it offers heritage trails, classic Cornish scenery and a strong sense of identity rooted in its working‑class mining culture.
