Hayle sits on the north coast of Cornwall at the mouth of the River Hayle, opening into St Ives Bay. The parish is notable for its wide sandy beaches and shifting dunes of the Hayle Towans, a lively estuary that is an important RSPB site for migratory waders and wildfowl, with landmarks such as Godrevy and its lighthouse visible from the shoreline.
Historically the town grew up around a busy industrial harbour and foundries tied to the mining boom, and parts of the local landscape form part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site. Today Hayle Harbour combines ongoing regeneration, a mix of light industry and tourism, and a strong local heritage scene, giving the parish a blend of maritime, industrial and community life.
