St. Day is a small former mining village in Cornwall, England, set on elevated ground in the old Gwennap mining district a short distance from Redruth and Camborne. The landscape is marked by characteristic engine houses, spoil heaps and narrow lanes, and the area sits within the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape UNESCO World Heritage Site, so its industrial archaeology is a notable local feature.
Once a busy 18th–19th century copper and tin centre, St. Day grew up around mine workings and the social life of miners, with chapels, institutes and clubs at its heart. After the decline of large-scale mining the village became largely residential, with many people commuting to nearby towns, while community groups, local pubs and walking routes keep a sense of place and draw visitors interested in Cornwall’s mining heritage.
