The ward covers the central part of Redruth together with the neighbouring former mining villages of Carharrack and St. Day in Cornwall, England. It sits amid rolling post-industrial moorland and a landscape dotted with the characteristic granite engine houses and chimneys that testify to its 18th–19th century tin and copper boom; the wider area forms part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site.
After the decline of large-scale mining the local economy shifted to a mix of small businesses, commuting and tourism, with heritage trails, community arts and lively village halls helping sustain a strong local identity. Socially the ward combines pockets of economic challenge with active grassroots initiatives and festivals that celebrate the mining past and rural Cornish culture.
