St Stephen-in-Brannel is a civil parish in mid-Cornwall, England, set roughly between St Austell and Newquay. The parish includes a string of villages and hamlets such as Nanpean, Foxhole, Whitemoor and Lanjeth, and is characterised by rolling farmland, pockets of heath and the industrial scars of former mineral working that shape much of the local landscape.
Historically the area is closely tied to Cornwall’s mining and china‑clay industries, and remnants of pits, tips and old works remain part of its character; many local families have long connections to those trades. Today there’s a mix of small local businesses, community life centred on village halls and churches, and residents who commute to larger nearby towns, while footpaths and quiet lanes attract those interested in industrial heritage and Cornish countryside walks.
