Holwick is a small civil parish in County Durham, England, tucked into the upper reaches of Teesdale on the northern side of the River Tees. The landscape is classic Pennine dale country, with moorland, drystone walls and scattered farms set against rolling uplands of the Pennines.
Economically and socially it remains largely agricultural, dominated by sheep farming with a tiny, close‑knit community and very few amenities, while historically the wider area saw lead‑mining and other upland rural trades. Its quiet lanes and open scenery make it popular with walkers and nature lovers, and the parish was historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire before boundary changes placed it in County Durham.
