Moss Bay and Moorclose are neighbouring communities on the western edge of Workington in Cumberland, England. Moss Bay grew up around 19th‑century iron and steel works beside the estuary of the River Derwent, giving the area a strong industrial heritage, while Moorclose is largely a post‑war residential estate that sits slightly inland from the coast.
The neighbourhoods still carry traces of that industrial past alongside pockets of more recent regeneration: industrial estates and community projects sit near rows of traditional terraced houses and newer social housing. Their coastal location on the Cumbrian plain brings easy access to shoreline paths and is not far from the fringes of the Lake District, so local life mixes working‑class history, community activity and links to wider tourism and transport routes.
