High Harrington is a small residential suburb in the unitary authority of Cumberland in north‑west England, located just a short distance inland from the coastal town of Workington. The area sits on the low‑lying plain typical of West Cumberland and offers easy access to coastal walks towards the Solway Firth and the fells of the Lake District.
Historically it grew to house workers in the local coal, iron and harbour industries and still has a working‑class, community‑orientated feel with terraces, local shops, pubs and active community groups. In recent decades the local economy has shifted from heavy industry towards light industry, services and tourism, with residents often combining commuting to nearby towns with involvement in local clubs and events.
