Seaton is a small coastal village in the historic county of Cumberland (now part of Cumbria), tucked on the north-west coast of England between the larger towns of Workington and Maryport. It feels very much like a traditional seaside settlement, with a long shoreline and nearby dunes, popular for straightforward coastal walks and birdwatching rather than busy resort tourism.
Historically the community was shaped by fishing, farming and the heavy industry of the neighbouring towns, and today it is largely residential with a quieter, community‑led vibe and some visitors using it as a base for exploring the nearby countryside and the Lake District. The mix of coastal scenery, local history and easy access to larger service towns gives Seaton a pleasantly unhurried character.
