Parton is a small coastal village in the historic county of Cumberland (now part of Cumbria) in north‑west England, sitting on the edge of the Irish Sea just a couple of miles south of Whitehaven. It has a compact harbour and a dramatic cliff‑top shoreline, making it popular with walkers following the coastal routes.
The village grew in the 18th and 19th centuries as a coal‑shipping and maritime community and still shows that industrial heritage; it is served by a request‑stop on the Cumbrian Coast Line. The local economy and character are shaped by maritime, mining and nearby industrial sites such as Sellafield, but the place remains a small, tight‑knit village with strong links to the coast.
