Parton is a small coastal parish on the Cumbrian coast in historic Cumberland, a couple of miles south of Whitehaven and north of St Bees. Sited on the edge of the Irish Sea, it combines low cliffs and rocky shoreline with agricultural land behind, and the coastline and footpaths are popular with walkers looking for dramatic sea views and coastal wildlife.
The village grew up around 19th‑century industry - notably coal and harbour activity - and remnants of that industrial past sit alongside more recent housing. Today the local economy is a mix of farming, small businesses and tourism, and the community is a quiet, close‑knit one that attracts people keen on outdoor pursuits and coastal living while still being within easy reach of larger towns.
