The ward covers Ripley and the neighbouring suburb of Marehay in the borough of Amber Valley, Derbyshire, England. Sitting in the valley of the River Amber, the area expanded in the 18th and 19th centuries with coal mining, ironworking and engineering, and you can still see traces of that industrial past in old works, terraced streets and local heritage sites.
