Edensor is a compact, picture‑postcard village in the Derbyshire Dales district of Derbyshire, tucked into the slopes above the River Derwent and a short stroll from Chatsworth House on the edge of the Peak District. Narrow lanes, stone and thatch cottages, a small green and the parish church give it a very ordered, deliberately picturesque character that attracts visitors from the nearby market towns and the parkland around Chatsworth.
The village is intimately linked with the Chatsworth estate and was largely remodelled in the 19th century by the estate proprietors to improve views and approaches to the house; many houses remain estate‑owned. Local life still reflects agriculture and tourism, while the church and scattered monuments to the Cavendish family underline the strong historic and social ties between the settlement and the Dukes of Devonshire.
