Edale is a small village and civil parish in High Peak, Derbyshire, England, tucked into the heart of the Peak District. It occupies the scenic Vale of Edale at the foot of Kinder Scout, with the steep path known as Jacob's Ladder rising to the moor and marking the southern end of the long-distance Pennine Way.
Historically shaped by upland farming and old packhorse routes, the area gained wider significance after the 1932 Kinder Scout mass trespass, a landmark in the campaign for public access to open country. Today the local economy and social life revolve around outdoor recreation and tourism - walkers, climbers and birdwatchers - supported by small-scale farming, guest accommodation and good rail access via the Hope Valley line, which keeps a tight-knit community busy through the seasons.
