The parish of Peak Forest sits in the borough of High Peak in rural Derbyshire, on the western edge of the Dark Peak moorlands of the Peak District. It is a small, scattered community of farms and stone-built cottages set among gritstone edges and lanes, popular with walkers heading out onto the high moors.

Historically the area grew around limestone quarrying and lime-burning, with 19th-century tramway and canal links that moved stone to market; you can still see scars of quarries and old kiln sites. Today agriculture and conservation shape daily life, tourism brings occasional visitors, and many residents commute to nearby towns such as Buxton.
