Padfield is a small village in the borough of High Peak, in north‑west Derbyshire, England, sitting on the edge of the Peak District and the western foothills of the Pennines. It lies close to the towns of Glossop and Hadfield and benefits from immediate access to upland moors, the nearby Longdendale reservoirs and routes used by walkers and cyclists such as the TransPennine Trail.
Historically the area shared the 19th‑century textile and rail heritage of Glossopdale, with traditional stone housing and a landscape shaped by former mills and transport links. Today Padfield has a largely residential, commuter character while retaining a strong local community, informal clubs and village amenities that reflect its rural‑fringe setting and popularity with outdoor enthusiasts. Many residents travel into nearby towns and cities, including Manchester, for work.
