The area around Duryard and St. James lies just north of Exeter city centre in Devon, England. Duryard is marked by wooded slopes and the semi-rural Duryard Valley, and owes much of its contemporary character to the nearby University of Exeter, whose halls and campus facilities bring a large student population and a research‑led influence to the neighbourhood.
St. James feels more inner‑urban, with Victorian terraces, local independent shops and the city’s football ground, St James Park, nearby. The ward is a mixed community of students, long‑standing residents and small businesses, so local life is lively and diverse; pressures around housing, student lets and transport are notable, while the area’s 19th‑century growth and proximity to the centre give it a distinctly historic yet urban character.
