Strete is a small coastal village in the South Hams district of Devon, England. Perched above the shingle of Slapton Sands and looking over the freshwater Slapton Ley towards the English Channel, it enjoys views to Start Point and lies within the rolling landscape of the South Devon AONB. The South West Coast Path runs nearby, drawing walkers to cliffs, coves and wildlife-rich estuaries.
The village carries wartime memory because of the Second World War training exercises at Slapton Sands, and today feels typically coastal South Hams: a small, largely residential community where agriculture and tourism underpin the local economy. Quaint cottages, a village atmosphere and proximity to spots such as Dartmouth make it a quiet base for exploring the coastline and countryside.
