The village of Thurlestone sits on the limestone coast of South Hams in Devon, England, and is best known for the dramatic offshore arch of Thurlestone Rock and the wide sandy bay at Thurlestone Sands. The South West Coast Path passes along the cliffs with long views towards Burgh Island and Bigbury-on-Sea, and the stretch falls within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, popular for birdwatching, rockpooling and occasional seal sightings.
Once a small farming and fishing community, Thurlestone today relies heavily on tourism, with hotels, holiday lets, a golf course and a few pubs serving visitors and the local population; nearby towns such as Salcombe and Kingsbridge provide additional services. The village retains a quiet, close-knit feel with a parish church and community activities, but like much of the South Hams it also faces pressures from second homes and seasonal economies.
