Ashburton is a compact historic market town in the Teignbridge district of Devon, England, sitting at the southern edge of Dartmoor. It grew up beside the River Ashburn and retains a medieval street pattern with cobbled lanes, timber-framed and stone buildings and the prominent late medieval St Lawrence Church, reflecting its past importance as a stannary town in the tin trade.
Today Ashburton is known for independent shops, cafes and craftspeople, drawing walkers and visitors heading onto the moor as well as locals from nearby towns such as Newton Abbot. The town balances tourism with a strong community life, regular markets and events, and an economy that mixes heritage-led businesses, rural services and small-scale agriculture.
