The small market town of Bovey Tracey sits in the district of Teignbridge on the eastern edge of Dartmoor in Devon, England. It straddles the valley of the River Bovey, making it a popular gateway for walkers heading onto the moor and close to tors such as Haytor; the surrounding landscape of clay and granite has long shaped the local economy and scenery.
Historically a medieval market centre - its 'Tracey' suffix reflecting the Norman Tracy family - the town expanded with ball‑clay extraction and quarrying that fed the ceramics trade. Today Bovey Tracey retains a lively high street of independent shops, cafes, a heritage centre and regular community events, giving it a strong local identity while remaining a hub for visitors to Dartmoor.
