Appledore is a small coastal village in the district of Torridge in Devon, England, sitting on the southern side of the estuary of the River Torridge just downstream from Bideford and opposite Instow. Its narrow streets, elbow-to-elbow cottages and working quay give it a distinct maritime feel, with mudflats, sandbanks and estuarine views that attract birdwatchers, day-trippers and sailors.
The village has a long seafaring and shipbuilding heritage - local yards historically built merchant and naval vessels - and today the economy mixes fishing and small-scale boatbuilding with tourism, arts and hospitality. There’s a strong community vibe, visible in pubs, galleries and seasonal events, and the place still feels like a working port while serving as a popular base for watersports and coastal walks along the North Devon shore.
