Bentley is a ward within the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, lying close to the town itself and framed by a mix of suburban housing and reclaimed industrial land. The area still shows echoes of its past in the landscape, with former colliery sites and spoil heaps that have in many places been landscaped into green spaces, while good road and public-transport links make commuting to Doncaster town centre and nearby employment hubs straightforward.
Historically a coal-mining community centred on Bentley Colliery, the ward carries a strong local identity shaped by that industrial past and the social bonds of working-class life. The colliery’s closure altered the local economy and prompted waves of regeneration and housing change; today the area combines long-established residents, community groups and local sports clubs with ongoing efforts to improve facilities and attract new opportunities.
