Conisbrough is a small town in the borough of Doncaster, in South Yorkshire, England, sitting on the south bank of the River Don. It lies between Doncaster and Rotherham and is within easy reach of Sheffield, with a local railway station and good walking and cycling routes including the nearby Trans Pennine Trail, making it a convenient commuter base with pleasant riverside green space.
The town is best known for the dramatic ruins of Conisbrough Castle, a rare Norman keep often linked in popular imagination to Sir Walter Scott’s Ivanhoe and now cared for by heritage bodies. Historically Conisbrough grew through mining, rail and light industry, and while much of that industrial fabric has gone the town retains a strong local community, visible in conservation efforts, small businesses and a quiet mix of historic streets and post‑war housing.
