Sykehouse is a small, low‑lying village and civil parish in the borough of Doncaster, set in the flat peatlands of the Humberhead Levels. The landscape is characterised by drainage channels, dykes and open pasture, which gives the area a strong wetland character and makes it attractive for birdwatching, walking and rural photography.
Local life is rooted in agriculture - mixed arable and livestock farms dominate the economy - and the community retains a traditional rural feel with a parish church, village hall and a handful of historic cottages. The village is also known regionally for its annual agricultural show, a long‑standing social event that draws people from around South Yorkshire and reinforces the parish’s strong community ties.
