Iwerne Minster is a small village and civil parish in north Dorset, set in a shallow chalk valley carved by the River Iwerne and tucked into the rolling downland of the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It sits a short drive from market towns such as Shaftesbury and Blandford Forum, and is characterised by honey‑coloured stone cottages, a village green feel and the presence of a large country house and estate that shape much of the local landscape.
The “Minster” in the name hints at an early ecclesiastical role and the parish church and village layout reflect medieval origins; the surrounding chalk downland also preserves prehistoric earthworks and ancient field systems. Today the community remains largely rural with farming, tourism and small‑scale local services playing a part in the economy, while village events and conservation efforts keep a strong sense of local identity.
