Piddletrenthide is a small village in Dorset, England, tucked into the gentle bowl of the valley through which the River Piddle runs. Its distinctive name is old English in origin, traditionally taken to refer to a measure of land (thirty hides), and the settlement sits among the rolling chalk downs and patchwork farmland that typify this part of the county.
The village retains a compact, rural character with honey‑coloured stone cottages, a historic parish church and an economy still rooted largely in agriculture, with visitors drawn by walking and country pursuits. It lies within easy reach of market towns such as Dorchester and Blandford Forum, so while very peaceful it’s not far from services and the broader cultural life of Dorset.
