Up Cerne is a tiny rural parish in Dorset, tucked into the steep-sided valley of the River Cerne within the Cerne Valley. The landscape is classic Dorset chalk and limestone downland with beechwoods, hedgerows and a patchwork of small arable and sheep farms, giving a tranquil, unspoilt character that attracts walkers and nature lovers.
Historically the area reflects long-established estate and medieval farming patterns, with old farmhouses and field boundaries surviving from earlier centuries. Community life is very small-scale and the local economy is largely agricultural, supplemented by some holiday lets and day visitors; it also sits not far from the village of Cerne Abbas and the famous Cerne Abbas Giant, so it often features on rural itineraries around west Dorset.
