Hornsea is a small coastal town on the North Sea in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, noted for its sandy beach, long promenade and traditional seaside feel. Just inland sits Hornsea Mere, the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire, popular with birdwatchers, sailors and walkers and forming a valuable wildlife and leisure resource.
Once a Victorian resort with a railway terminus until the Beeching closures, the town later became known for its pottery industry and today relies largely on tourism, day visitors, second homes and local services. The nearby Hornsea Offshore Wind Farm has also linked the area to large-scale renewable energy, while the mix of coast, mere and a compact town centre gives Hornsea a friendly, slightly nostalgic character.
