The Hatfield civil parish sits in the low-lying, reclaimed wetlands of the East Riding of Yorkshire in England, part of the historic Humberhead Levels and formerly the medieval Hatfield Chase. The landscape is flat and peat-rich and was extensively drained in the 17th century under Cornelius Vermuyden, leaving a patchwork of agricultural fields, drainage channels and remnant moorland.
Today it's a small, rural community with an economy focused on arable farming and market gardening, and it benefits from nearby conservation interest around the Thorne and Hatfield Moors. The parish sits close to the South Yorkshire border and is within easy reach of Doncaster and the port town of Goole for services and transport links.
